This Week in Mislabeled Product - Ending 11/3/17

Five Whole Foods Market stores in Northern California are voluntarily recalling frosted Pumpkin Drop cookies because the products contained tree nut allergens (walnuts) that were not listed on the product label.   One reaction has been reported to date.

aylor Farms Florida, an Orlando, Fla. establishment, is recalling approximately 732 pounds of salads with chicken products due to misbranding and undeclared allergens.  The products contain fish (anchovies), a known allergen, which is not declared on the product label.   The problem was discovered on Oct. 26, 2017, when Taylor Farms Florida received a consumer complaint about the taste of the salad dressing. After conducting an internal investigation, the firm determined that the products incorrectly contained Caesar salad dressing instead of Bacon Ranch salad dressing. The Caesar salad dressing contains anchovies.

Five Whole Foods Market stores in Northern California are voluntarily recalling frosted Pumpkin Drop cookies because the products contained tree nut allergens (walnuts) that were not listed on the product label. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to walnuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume these products.

All affected products have been removed from store shelves. The cookies are round with a dollop of off-white frosting. They were sold in clear plastic packages and can be identified by the PLU number 024767. The products were sold between October 19 and October 26, 2017. One reaction has been reported to date.

The cookies were sold in the following locations in Northern California:
•3000 Telegraph Avenue, Berkeley, CA
•390 Coddingtown Mall, Santa Rosa, CA
•3502 Mt Diablo Boulevard, Lafayette, CA
•450 Rhode Island Street, San Francisco, CA
•1333 Newell Avenue, Walnut Creek, CA

Customers who purchased these products at Whole Foods Market can bring a valid receipt into stores for a full refund. Consumers with additional questions can call 1-844-936-8255 between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. CST, Monday through Friday, or 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. CST Saturday through Sunday.

WASHINGTON, Oct. 28, 2017 – Taylor Farms Florida, an Orlando, Fla. establishment, is recalling approximately 732 pounds of salads with chicken products due to misbranding and undeclared allergens, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today. The products contain fish (anchovies), a known allergen, which is not declared on the product label. 

The ready-to-eat (RTE) salad with chicken items were produced and packaged on Oct. 22, 2017 and Oct. 23, 2107. The following products are subject to recall: [View Labels (PDF only)]
•9.75-oz. plastic bowls containing “Taylor Farms American Style Pasta Salad” with a “USE BY 11/01/17” and case code of TFFLD 295 L5 EA.
•9.75-oz. plastic bowls containing “Taylor Farms American Style Pasta Salad” with a “USE BY 11/02/17” and case code of TFFLD 296 L5 JP.

The products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. 44818” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to retail locations in Florida.

The problem was discovered on Oct. 26, 2017, when Taylor Farms Florida received a consumer complaint about the taste of the salad dressing. After conducting an internal investigation, the firm determined that the products incorrectly contained Caesar salad dressing instead of Bacon Ranch salad dressing. The Caesar salad dressing contains anchovies.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.  

Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notify their customers of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers.
