Using non-potable water is an issue...whether pathogens are detected in teh sample or not. With coliforms, all one can tell is that water source has been compromised, so there is an uncertainty what else can be there including chemicals.
It is important to know the ultimate source of your facility's water. It is also important to know what to do in the event of a water emergency whent that water becomes contaminated. It would be interesting to know in this case whether the facility had warning or was the testing done afterwards.

Shiloh's Newswanger Meats recalls more than one ton of meat

SHILOH - Newswanger Meats has issued a voluntary recall of more than 2,000 pounds of meat possibly produced under insanitary conditions.
The recall includes 2,190 pounds of fresh not frozen beef, pork, chicken and sliced deli products, according to a press release from the Ohio Department of Agriculture.
According to the release, Newswanger Meats determined the products were produced with the use of a water supply that failed to meet the Ohio Department of Health's Requirements in the Ohio Administrative Code for an approved water system.
The recalled products include:
•1,440 pounds of fresh chorizo sausage in one-pound packages
•75 pounds of fresh ground beef
•20 pounds of fresh pork chops
•13 pounds of chicken (leg quarters, drumsticks, boneless breast and thighs)
•10 pounds of fresh pork steaks
•10 pounds of fresh beef stew meat
•10 pounds of fresh beef cubed steaks
•8 pounds of fresh pork roasts
•5 pounds of fresh bratwurst
•5 pounds of fresh breakfast sausage links
•3 pounds of fresh beef strip steaks
•3 pounds of fresh maple-flavored sausage links
•3 pounds of fresh Italian sausage links
•3 rind-on carcass hogs
•Various sliced deli meats
The products were produced on Oct. 4, 5 and 6, 2017, bearing the establishment number EST. 151 inside the Ohio mark of inspection.
Just above the mark of inspection is a lot code of 17J04, 17J05, 17J06 and OCT0517.
The hog carcasses were sold to Ohio City Provisions in Cleveland, and the chorizo sausage was sold to Fresh Fork Market in Cleveland.
The remaining products were sold through the retail store at Newswanger Meats, 1585 Ohio 603, Shiloh.
Newswanger Meats and the Ohio Department of Agriculture's Division of Meat Inspection discovered the problem Oct. 6.
Results from a water sample collected by Richland Public Health on Oct. 4 tested negative for E. coli but tested positive for a total coliform bacteria count without a level quantified, according to the press release.
"The presence of other coliform bacteria in the water violates the regulatory requirement, and the supply is determined to be non-potable," the release states. "Therefore, the non-potable water supply resulted in the potential creation of insanitary conditions and potential direct product contamination leading to adulteration of the products processed in the facility during this time period."
Both the Ohio Department of Agriculture and Newswanger Meats have received no reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.
As a precaution, Newswanger Meats urges customers that have purchased these products not to consume them. These products should be discarded or returned to the place of purchase for a full refund.
The recall was announced Saturday.
