Recalls Continue for Products Using Potentially Contaminated Dairy Powder Ingredient

The recalls have continued for products using the potentially contaminated dairy powders from Valley Dairy. A list of recalls products through 12/21/16 is posted here.

Mikesell’s Recalls 2.25 Oz. Nacho Cheese Tortilla Chips Because Of Possible Health Risk
For Immediate Release December 29, 2016

Mikesell's Potato Chip Company. is recalling its 2.25 oz. Nacho Cheese Tortilla Chips because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella,, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
The recalled Nacho Cheese Tortilla Chips were distributed in Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan and Illinois.
The potential for contamination was noted after FDA environmental testing was done at Valley Milk Products, LLC and the presence of Salmonella was noted on equipment. Valley Milk Products, LLC is a secondary supplier to All American Seasoning, the seasoning supplier for our Nacho Cheese seasoning.

TreeHouse Foods Amends Best By Dates in Voluntary Product Recall of Macaroni & Cheese Cup Products

OAK BROOK, Ill. (December 27, 2016) – TreeHouse Foods, Inc. (NYSE: THS) today announced an amendment to the Best By Dates in its December 11, 2016, press release related to its voluntary recall of certain macaroni and cheese cup products. The products contain cheddar cheese seasoning which may be contaminated with Salmonella.
This follows notification from our supplier that the milk powder used in the seasoning has the potential for Salmonella contamination.

Southeastern Mills, Inc. Announces Recall of Certain Food Ingredients and Food Mixes Due to Possible Health Risk
For Immediate Release  December 23, 2016
Rome, GA — Southeastern Mills, Inc. is initiating a voluntary recall of certain quantities of food ingredients and branded food mixes (Southeastern Mills® Biscuit Gravy Mix, Southeastern Mills® Country Biscuit Mix, Southeastern Mills® Buttermilk Drop Biscuit Mix, Southeastern Mills® Easy Drop Cheddar Garlic Drop Biscuit Mix, Shore Lunch® Original Breading and Shore Lunch® Cajun Style Breading) because these ingredients and food mixes contain milk or buttermilk powder purchased from Valley Milk Products, Inc. that is potentially contaminated with Salmonella.
Salmonella is killed by proper cooking and pasteurization.
The recalled food ingredients are sold by Southeastern Mills to other food manufacturers and further processed into finished foods sold in various food distribution channels. Southeastern Mills is contacting affected customers directly and providing them with complete details of the items impacted. It is noted that the customer may not need to recall if they have a cooking step validated to kill Salmonella.

Bickel's Snack Foods Notice of Voluntary Recall
For Immediate Release  December 22, 2016
Bickel's Snack Foods, Inc., of York, PA is voluntarily recalling all snack products that were made with milk ingredients supplied by one of its' secondary seasoning component suppliers, Valley Milk Products LLC, due to Salmonella contamination. On 12/16/16, Bickel's Snack Foods, Inc. was notified Valley Milk Products, LLC initiated a recall of products made with milk powders or sour cream. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has been made aware of this recall.
Although no lab tests have confirmed the presence of Salmonella in these products and no illnesses have been reported, we are voluntarily recalling these products out of an abundance of caution.

Route 11 Issues Voluntary Recall For Sour Cream & Chive Flavored Potato Chips

For Immediate Release December 22, 2016
On December 19th, Route 11 Potato Chips was advised by its seasoning supplier that an ingredient in its Sour Cream & Chive seasoning was subject to a recall. The ingredient, nonfat dry milk powder, was produced in a facility where the FDA identified Salmonella in the environment......Although no pathogenic material was found in the finished product supplied to Route 11, the kettle chip maker decided out of an abundance of caution, to recall its Sour Cream & Chive Potato Chips, 2oz and 6 oz bags, produced with BEST BY DATES beginning with 2/9/17 and ending with 6/10/17.
To date, there have been no reported illnesses associated with this product.
The only product affected by this recall is the Sour Cream & Chive flavored potato chips. Route 11 is known for having an excellent food safety record, and this its first recall event in the company’s 25 year history.
The company is asking consumers to return product to the store they purchased it, for a full refund. If they purchased the product directly from Route 11, please contact the company for a refund or replacement.

Dawn Food Products Recalls Limited Quantities of Bulk Bakery Mix Products Due to Possible Health Risk

Herr Foods Inc. Announces Voluntary Recall of Herr’s Brand of Smoked Chipotle Flavored Kettle Cooked Potato Chips and Peddler’s Pantry Smoked Dried Chipotle Kettle Cooked Potato Chips due to Possible Health Risk

Herr Foods Inc. is announcing a voluntary recall of Smoked Chipotle flavored Kettle Cooked Potato Chips under the Herr’s Brand and Smoke Dried Chipotle flavored Kettle Cooked Potato Chips under the Peddler’s Pantry Brand. These products were flavored with Chipotle seasoning that contained a milk ingredient manufactured by Valley Milk Products LLC. The milk ingredient is being recalled due to a potential risk of Salmonella contamination.
Although no lab tests have confirmed the presence of Salmonella in these products and no illnesses have been reported, Herr’s is voluntarily issuing an immediate recall of these products in conjunction with FDA guidance with an abundance of caution and with adherence to strict quality standards of Herr Foods Inc.
Product was distributed nationwide through grocery and other retail stores. These products were sold as individual bags. No other ‘Herr’s” products are involved with this recall.

To date, there have been no reported illnesses associated with this product. Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick.
