CA Firm Recalls Pasta Products for Undeclared Allergens Identified Through Customer Complaints

Gooder Foods, Inc., Santa Cruz, CA, is recalling 5 lots of Vegan Is Believin’ – Plant Based White Cheddar with Spirals produced as they may contain milk, which is not listed on the label, and 3 lots of Here Comes Truffle – Creamy Truffle Flavored Cheddar and Shells, as they may contain cashew which is not listed on the label. The recalled lots were produced between April 7 and April 15, 2025.

The issue was discovered through consumer feedback . The company is recalling the affected product and notifying all distributors, retailers, and consumers who may have received the impacted lots. There have been six reported allergic reactions in connection with Here Comes Truffle and two reported allergic reactions in connection with Vegan is Believin’.

Company Expands Salmonella Related Recall for Vegetable Products Produced on Same Equipment

Collectively (“Chetak”) is expanding its voluntary recall, initiated July 16, 2025, to include several lots of Deep-branded frozen vegetables and fruit products due to possible Salmonella contamination.   Chetak has decided to expand its voluntary recall to include additional frozen vegetable and fruit products that were manufactured on the same equipment from December 18, 2024 – August 18, 2025.

While there have been no cases linked to the product in the expanded recall, the initial recall was issued after CDC linked product from this company to 11 cases of Salmonella infection.

Interesting in that this is quite a delay in time from the initial recall.

CT Firm Recalls Cookies for Undeclared Allergenic Ingredients Due to Improperly Designed Label

Gina Marie Bakery of Waterbury, CT is recalling 1lb and 2 lb packages of the various cookies because they contain undeclared allergens.  The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the various products were distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of allergens..

So while the regular allergens were on the label, Almonds, Sesame, Yellow 5, Yellow 6 , Red 40, Red 3, and Blue 1 were not in the 'Contains' statement.

NY Firm Recalls Burrito Bowls After Undeclared Shrimp Found by Customers

One Frozen, LLC of Rochester, NY, is voluntarily recalling certain lots of Good & Gather™ Southwest-Style Burrito Bowl Blend (frozen, 12oz bags) because the product may contain shrimp (crustacean shellfish) that was not declared on the ingredient label of the product.  The recall is being initiated after three consumer complaints were received indicating the possible presence of shrimp in this product. No illnesses have been reported as of September 10, 2025.

Good & Gather™ Southwest-Style Burrito Bowl Blend were distributed through Target retail stores nationwide, in all 50 states. The distribution from One Frozen, LLC to Target began on 4/17/2025.

This is where a Sanitation Preventive Control, if properly applied, prevents this type of issue.  A thorough recheck of the equipment occurring after sanitation and prior to the next production run with a focus on those areas where shrimp can get hung up in the equipment.

Ohio Firm Expands Recall of Cheese Due to Listeria Contamination

The Middlefield Original Cheese Co-Op facility in Middlefield, OH is expanding its August 18th recall to include additional product due to Listeria contamination.  The company is recalling one lot of Sunrise Creamery Dilly Pickle Monterey Jack Cheese with Dill Pickles in 6 oz. and 1.25 lb. packages, one lot of Organic Gouda Cheese in 8 oz. packages, and specific lots of Mozzarella/Provolone Cheese, Cheddar Cheese, Pepper Jack Cheese, Swiss Cheese, and Monterey Jack Cheese packaged as 5 lb. loaves or 5 lb. shredded bags because of potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.

The most recent recall notice that that this recall was initiated after testing by the company revealed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in finished product and on surfaces of cutting equipment.  The initial recall notice stated that the recall was after finished product tested positive, so this would indicate that the recall was expanded after the investigation found Listeria on the food contact surfaces further indicating lack of Listeria control by the facility.

CDC Reports Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Home Delivery Meal. Raises Concerns for Risk Associated with RTE Meals by Mail

CDC reported a Salmonella outbreak linked to home delivered meals.   There have been 16 reported cases of Salmonella infection reported from 10 different states.  The product is sold through an online-based company, Metabolic Meals, whose location is not apparent.   This is a ready-to-eat, reheat only, type of food, which means the producer is fully preparing the product.  There are 3 date codes involved, but no recall was issued due to the fact that all product is shipped immediately and the shelf-life is short.

There have been an increasing number of these companies that market these 'chef' prepared, home delivered meals.   This outbreak should raise questions as to the safety of this food and the operations that prepare it.   Unlike a restaurant or store that you can actually see or inspections that you can obtain, people do not have much information on these operations.  

Looking at the website, I was not able to determine where the food is actually made.  Was it made in some shotgun shack?  Who is inspecting these operations?  Perhaps some municipality where the inspectors are unaware of issues of RTE home delivered meals?  Home delivered often skate the boundary between local and Federal inspection.

It is important to point out that home-delivered meals, especially RTE refrigerated meals, have some risks that need to be controlled.  First is proper preparation where cooking and cooling steps must be adequately addressed.  But then there is the delivery component, where safeguards must be in place to prevent temperature abuse during transport. 

There is little information outside of the website to make valid decisions.  Slick websites with appealing food are not sufficient and can be misleading.  I was able to find a physical location for the facility in St. Louis MO.  It is a USDA inspected facility.

NY Firm Recalls Frozen Vegetables After Testing Finds Listeria

Endico Potatoes of Mount Vernon NY, is recalling Endico brand Peas and Carrots and Mixed Vegetables because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.  The recall was the result of sampling done by the state of Pennsylvania at one of the distributors which revealed that the finished products tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes. The company has ceased distribution of the product as FDA and the company continue their investigation as to what caused the problem.

No illnesses have been reported to date.

There are currently only two date codes of product being recalled.  As as have seen with other Listeria-related recalls, these recalls can often be expanded as the company and regulators find that the company did not have adequate controls in place meaning that more lots may have contamination.

Imported Pepperoni Pizza Recalled for Not Receiving UDSA Reinspection

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is issuing a public health alert for a frozen not-ready-to-eat (NRTE) uncured pepperoni pizza product imported from Italy that did not receive the benefit of import reinspection.  The problem was discovered when FSIS was notified by Trader Joe’s Company that the frozen NRTE uncured pepperoni pizza product was not presented for FSIS import reinspection.

A recall was not requested because the product is no longer available for purchase.

NY Firm Recalls Vanilla Ice Cream Due to Undeclared Almond

Ice Cream Factory of Mount Vernon, NY is recalling 40 Pints, 8 Quarts and 3 Half Gallons of Vanilla G.Nutt ice cream, because it may contain undeclared almond.   The recall was initiated after an undeclared allergen was discovered. Subsequent investigation indicates the problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in the company's production and packaging processes.

Vanilla G.Nutt ice cream was distributed in New York State – Golden Krust retail stores in Mount Vernon and White Plains NY, Farm Country Supermarket in Queens NY through direct delivery.
