Soup Recalled Due to Mismatched Top and Side Label Causing Undeclared Allergen Issue

USDA-FSIS is issuing a public health alert for ready-to-eat (RTE) chicken soup products due to misbranding and an undeclared allergen. The products contain wheat, a known allergen, which is not declared on the product label.  The product was sold at Alberstons Grocery chain in Texas, Utah, and Washington.

The product had Signature SELECT Creamy Chicken & Wild Rice SOUP with White Meat Chicken” on the lid and labeled “Signature SELECT Chicken Corn CHOWDER with White Meat Chicken Smoke Flavor Added” on the side of the cup.  The problem was discovered by a retailer after a store employee identified “Signature SELECT Creamy Chicken & Wild Rice SOUP with White Meat Chicken” product bearing the correct top label but incorrect side label. The retailer reported the issue to the producing establishment, and the establishment notified FSIS.

WASHINGTON, May 22, 2025 – The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is issuing a public health alert for ready-to-eat (RTE) chicken soup products due to misbranding and an undeclared allergen. The products contain wheat, a known allergen, which is not declared on the product label. FSIS is issuing this public health alert to ensure that consumers with allergies to wheat are aware that these products should not be consumed. A recall was not requested because the affected products are no longer available for purchase.

Louisiana Establishment Recalled RTE Smoked Andouille Sausage After USDA Testing Finds Listeria

Bourgeois Smokehouse, a Thibodaux, La., establishment, is recalling approximately 100 pounds of ready-to-eat (RTE) smoked andouille sausage products that may be adulterated with Listeria monocytogenes.  The problem was discovered after FSIS performed routine product testing of the RTE andouille sausage produced by Bourgeois Smokehouse and confirmed those products positive for Listeria monocytogenes.

While this recall is limited to the one lot that USDA tested, we know that these recalls can expand if USDA determines that the establishment does not have a effective Listeria control program, which is often the case.  If Listeria is present on the product, it is likely present in the processing environment as a persistent type of contamination.

NJ Establishment Recalls RTE Chicken Coxinhas Products Produced Without USDA Inspection

Snack Mania Brazilian Delights Corp., an Elizabeth, N.J. restaurant, is recalling approximately 9,722 pounds of ready-to-eat chicken coxinhas products that were produced without the benefit of federal (USDA FSIS) inspection. This item was shipped to retail locations in Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.  The problem was discovered during routine FSIS surveillance activities when FSIS determined that the chicken coxinhas products did not have the USDA mark of inspection and were produced in a facility that was not inspected by USDA.

Snack Mania Foods is a Brazilian-inspired USA made factory of Snacks based in New Jersey with focus on creating original flavors of traditional street snacks from Brazil.   The company may not have realized the incorporation of meat into their means they need to have USDA involved.

WASHINGTON, May 20, 2025 – Snack Mania Brazilian Delights Corp., an Elizabeth, N.J. restaurant, is recalling approximately 9,722 pounds of ready-to-eat chicken coxinhas products that were produced without the benefit of federal inspection, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Cucumbers From Florida Firm Involved in 2024 Salmonella Outbreak

The FDA and CDC, in collaboration with state and local partners, are investigating illnesses in a multistate outbreak of Salmonella Montevideo infections linked to cucumbers grown by Bedner Growers, Inc., in Boynton Beach, Florida, and distributed by Fresh Start Produce Sales, Inc., of Delray, Florida.  This company was involved in the July/August 2024 Salmonella outbreak linked to cucumbers where there was approximately 450 cases of Salmonella infection.

"As part of a follow-up inspection in April 2025, FDA investigators collected an environmental sample from Bedner Growers, Inc. that was positive for Salmonella and matched recent clinical samples from ill people, by Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) analysis. The recent follow-up inspection was in response to the 2024 Salmonella Africana and Salmonella Braenderup outbreaks linked to cucumbers grown at Bedner Growers, Inc. Additionally, FDA’s traceback investigation has identified Bedner Growers, Inc. as the common grower of cucumbers in this current outbreak."

The company, Bedner Growers, Inc. of Boynton Beach, Florida issued a recall of cucumbers sold at Bedner’s Farm Fresh Market between April 29, 2025, and May 14, 2025. The recalled cucumbers also were sold to a wholesale distributor, which has been directed to further contact its customers with recall instructions.

Ohio Firm Recalls Croissants for Not Specifically Stating Wheat in Regard to Flour Ingredient

Element 112, LLC dba Madeline’s Pâtisserie of Sylvania, Ohio is issuing a voluntary recall of a specific batch of our ready-to-eat croissants, due to a labeling error. The ingredient statement on the exterior of the box was labeled as “flour” and does not accurately reflect the contained allergen of “wheat” 

Product distribution was limited to Ohio and Michigan.

WA Distributor Recalls Milk Tea Powder for Not Specifically Declaring Milk Allergen Even Though Whey and Caseinate Listed

R&M Trading LLC of Lakewood, WA is recalling approximately 408 packages (1lb. pack per package) and 1624 packages (3/1lb. packs per package) of Instant Milk Tea powder products because they may contain undeclared milk.  The R&M Refresher brand Instant Milk Tea products are recalled because the ingredients statement declares Whey and Caseinate in Non-Dairy Creamer ingredients, but it does not specify milk.

NY Firm Recalls Imported Vegetable Singara Product for Undeclared Peanut

South Asian Food Inc. of Maspeth, NY, is recalling its 1875g packages of Bengal King Family Pack Vegetable Singara because they may contain undeclared peanuts.   The recall was initiated after it was discovered that a peanut-containing ingredient was included in the product without being declared on the label. A subsequent investigation indicates the problem was caused by unintentional human error in the packaging processes.  Product is imported from Bangladesh.

Singara, commonly known as "Samosa" in many parts of India, is a popular deep-fried snack filled with spiced potatoes, peas, and sometimes other vegetables or meat.

CA Firm Recalls Corn Bread for Undeclared Allergens

Ariana Sweets Inc. of Fremont, CA is recalling AFGHANI CORN BREAD “Doda” manufactured prior to 4/24/2025, because it may contain undeclared sesame and wheat. The recall was initiated after it was discovered during a routine FDA inspection that product containing sesame and wheat was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of sesame and wheat.

The AFGHANI CORN BREAD “Doda” products were distributed to retail locations in California.

Imported Rice Products Recalled for Not Properly Listing Allergens on Label

NatureMills US Inc., based in Prosper, Texas, is recalling select products that were sold between December 1, 2023, and May 10, 2025, due to undeclared allergens: Wheat, Milk, and Sesame.  This recall was initiated after a routine internal audit revealed missing ingredients and allergen labeling. The issue was the result of a oversight in the packaging process. Immediate corrective measures have been implemented.

It seems the issue was that the label was not properly developed.  The imported product does not state the allergens as is required.
