Is Cold Pizza Better Than Hot Pizza?
Hot pizza vs leftover cold pizza? This article lays out this question and provides some science-ish support.
"Scientists speculate on why this group prefers chilled pizza. Chilling foods mellows the flavors, particularly those that are bitter or sweet. Meanwhile, the taste receptors for saltiness are stronger in cold temperatures. This mutes the sweetness of the tomato sauce, causing the pizza to taste saltier. Other, more delicate flavors, such as the herbs in the sauce, can also come through stronger."While the melding of flavors is important, however I think there are factors that are more important. First, we must recognize that not all pizza is the same, and there are big differences on which will be better cold or better reheated.
The dough is a major factor. A very thick dough can be overly chewy when cold and is better on reheating. And if that thick dough was overly doughy initially, reheating it can make it better than it was initially.
As for cheese, it depends on the type of cheese. Some cheeses are better hot, while some may be better cold. I am not the cheese expert (our cheese expert retired), but as a pizza aficionado (grew up in NE PA, pizza capital of the world, and worked for a real pizza shop (not one of these cookie-cutter chains) for 4 years (age 15-18)), I have seen some pizza cheese turn from excellent hot to nothing more than rubber when cold. This is not only a textural issues, but flavors as well.
The beverage served as a lot to do with this as well. You can pair hot pizza with beer or wine, but with cold pizza, I just don't see it. I like my cold pizza with milk.
So do you have a favorite pizza joint and is that pizza good when cold?

A Blue Bell employee discovered the incorrect packaging on two half gallons while restocking a retailer. No illnesses or adverse reactions have been reported to date. No other incorrect packaging has been discovered or reported to date.
There seems to have been many recalls such as this where the cap or lid does not match the carton. A stout preventive control at the point of packaging to check this type of thing can go a long way in preventing this type of issue.

FDA Issues Warning Letter to Maryland Facility for Lack of Food Safety Plan
FDA issued a Warning letter to One Roof LLC of Baltimore, MD after FDA inspected the ready-to-eat (RTE) food manufacturing facility on October 24, 2024, through December 9, 2024. This inspection was initiated as a follow-up to the voluntary recall of Atwater’s Spider Web Tarts on October 21, 2024, due to undeclared almond in the product. FDA stated that the "Spider Web Tarts are adulterated within the meaning of section 402(a)(4) of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (the Act) [21 U.S.C. § 342(a)(4)] in that they were prepared, packed, or held under insanitary conditions whereby they may have become contaminated with filth or may have been rendered injurious to health. In addition, failure of the owner, operator, or agent in charge of a covered facility to comply with the preventive controls provisions of the CGMP & PC rule."
Basically, the facility did not have a food safety plan for any of the products they produced, and with that, did not have established controls for hazards including allergens. What controls were in place were not followed per the company's procedures. The Warning Letter is lengthy covering various aspects that the company should be following. There are also misbranding violations.

Muscimol binds to GABA receptors in the brain, resulting in its sedative and hallucinogenic properties.[39] Muscimol-based products are currently being investigated for their potential therapeutic applications, especially in the treatment of anxiety, insomnia, and other neurological disorders.[40][41] The psychoactive nature of muscimol necessitates stringent regulation and cautious usage to ensure safety.[42] However, ongoing research aims to harness its medicinal benefits in a controlled context, highlighting the broader scientific interest in natural compounds as potential sources for novel medical treatments.[43][44]"

Warning Letter to Cookie Dough Processor Highlights FDA's Attention to Allergens and Supplier Controls
In this Warning Letter issued to a cookie dough manufacturing company, it is important to see the approach FDA is taking with regard to allergens and supplier-controlled hazards.
Cookies-n-Milk, LLC, a processor of ready-to-eat (RTE) cookie dough located in McKinney, TX received an inspection. The inspection was in response to using incorrect packaging, which resulted in undeclared peanut allergen in the product, as containers of Chocolate Chip Edible Cookie Dough which do not declare the allergen peanuts were filled with Peanut Butter Edible Cookie Dough which contain peanuts. Basically, the company put peanut butter dough into chocolate chip dough containers.
First on the lack of allergen preventive controls at the labeling step. As part of the hazard analysis, the company did not identify and determine that undeclared allergens due to incorrect labeling as a known or reasonably foreseeable hazard that requires a preventive control at the packaging/labeling step. With that, the company did not monitor or verify that these preprinted labels are applied to the correct product during production (such as at the packaging/labeling step). The firm’s own investigation indicated that a lack of packaging controls resulted in containers of “Chocolate Chip Edible Cookie Dough,” which do not declare the allergen peanuts on the product label, being filled with Peanut Butter Edible Cookie Dough which contain peanuts
The next issue noted, and an item seen in recent Warning Letters, was the company did not identify and evaluate mycotoxins in the incoming peanut butter as a known or reasonably foreseeable hazard to determine whether they require a preventive control. The "facility manufactures RTE edible cookie dough products containing peanut butter, which has been associated with mycotoxins such as aflatoxin. A knowledgeable person manufacturing/ processing food in your circumstances would identify mycotoxins as a hazard requiring a preventive control in peanut butter and peanut butter-containing ingredients. With not identifying mycotoxins as a hazard requiring a preventive control, the company did not conduct supplier verification activities for mycotoxins in peanut butter and peanut butter-containing ingredients.

With not identifying mycotoxins as a hazard requiring a preventive control, the company did not conduct supplier verification activities for mycotoxins in peanut butter and peanut butter-containing ingredients.
FDA then cited the lack of supporting documentation for corrective action as written in the company's response to the inspection In a response letter, the company indicated that the "dough hazard analysis will be revised to identify undeclared allergens due to mislabeling/packaging as a potential hazard with controls at packaging implemented with monitoring and verification procedures defined” and “The Edible Cookie Dough hazard analysis will be revised to identify Mycotoxins as a potential hazard for Wheat Flour and Peanut Butter with controls at the supplier level implemented with monitoring and verification procedures defined.” FDA responded, "However, the response did not contain sufficient supporting documentation for FDA to adequately evaluate your corrective actions. In addition, the response did not include a complete updated hazard analysis (to identify mycotoxins as a hazard requiring a preventive control for peanut butter and peanut butter-containing ingredients, and to identify undeclared allergens as a hazard requiring a preventive control at the packaging/labeling step) or revised food safety procedures."

Michigan Firm Recalls No Bake Cookies After Computer Error Causes Formulation Mistake and Adds Undeclared Peanuts
Wesco, Inc. of Muskegon, MI is recalling 750 units of Wesco Mint No Bake Cookie Bites, because it may contain undeclared peanut. The recall was initiated after it was discovered that Wesco Mint No Bake Cookie Bites containing peanut butter were distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of peanuts. Subsequent investigation indicates the problem was caused by incorrect product formulation within the manufacturing facility’s new software system.
Validating software - when new software is installed, it must be thoroughly validated. Validation should continue through the start of use in production.
Validating software - when new software is installed, it must be thoroughly validated. Validation should continue through the start of use in production.
Verifying formulations - the strength of a HACCP based system is having double checks in place to ensure product safety. In this case, a manual check is there to ensure the proper formulation is in place, specifically addressing allergens. The allergens within the formulation must match what is on the package.

Unfortunate Disconnect Between Supplier and Retailer Leads to Death Due to Undeclared Peanuts
Tragic stories bring home the importance of preventing simple errors such as getting proper labels on packages. In a most recent case, a 25 year old world-class dancer "tragically lost her life due to anaphylactic shock resulting from a severe allergic reaction to a cookie manufactured by Cookies United and sold by the supermarket chain Stew Leonard's. The FDA and Stew Leonard's issued a recall of the Vanilla Florentine Cookies that were sold at Stew Leonard's in Danbury and Newington, CT from November 6 – December 31, 2023. The cookie contained peanuts which were not listed as part of the ingredients."
Unfortunately for Steward Leonards, they were made aware of the inclusion of peanuts earlier in the year, but failed to update their label. From Cookies United Press Release "Stew Leonard’s claimed in an earlier press release that “The cookies contain peanuts, which was an ingredient not disclosed to Stew Leonard’s by the manufacturer.” [bold is ours] Unfortunately, considering the tragedy of these circumstances, we need to point out that Stew Leonard’s was notified by Cookies United in July of 2023 that this product now contains peanuts and all products shipped to them have been labeled accordingly. This product is sold under the Stew Leonard’s brand and repackaged at their facilities. The incorrect label was created by, and applied to, their product by Stew Leonard’s."
A very unfortunate disconnect between the supplier and the retailer.

Ohio Firm Recalls Cookie Bites for Undeclared Allergens
Eban’s Bakehouse is recalling all of its Sweet Indulgences cookie bites, packaged in 12-count, 11.85 oz boxes, due to undeclared milk and soy allergens. The labeling issue was discovered during a routine inspection conducted by the Ohio Department of Agriculture. There have been no reports of illness involving the products addressed in this recall.
The issue is that ingredients were not investigated and associated allergens identified. For example, butter is listed, but the allergen milk was not identified. The soy coming with the soy lecithin used in chocolate.
