Salmonella Outbreak Associated with Eggs from CA Producer

The FDA and CDC, in collaboration with state and local partners, are investigating illnesses in a multistate outbreak of Salmonella Enteritidis infections linked to large brown cage free "sunshine/omega-3 golden” yolk eggs sourced from Country Eggs, LLC, of Lucerne Valley, CA.

To this point, there have been total of 95 people infected with the outbreak strain of Salmonella have been reported from 14 states.

The company, Country Eggs, LLC issued a recall of large brown cage free "sunshine/omega-3 golden” yolk eggs under the brand names Nagatoshi Produce, Misuho, Nijiya Markets, and Country Eggs.

Outbreak Investigation of Salmonella: Eggs (August 2025)
Do not eat, sell, or serve recalled chicken eggs distributed by Country Eggs, LLC. FDA’s investigation is ongoing.

  
Product:  Large brown cage free "sunshine/omega-3 golden” yolk eggs sourced from Country Eggs, LLC, of Lucerne Valley, CA between June 16, 2025, and July 9, 2025.
  • Brands the recalled eggs were sold under include: Nagatoshi Produce, Misuho, Nijiya Markets, and Country Eggs.
  • The egg cartons or packages from the distributed dates above have the following printed codes or dates on one side of the individual carton:
  • Code on carton: No. CA-7695
  • Sell by dates ranging from: 7/1/25 - 9/18/25
  • These eggs were also packed as large brown “sunshine/omega-3 golden” yolk (1/15 Dozen fresh eggs bulk) for foodservice with the same codes and sell by dates.

The FDA and CDC, in collaboration with state and local partners, are investigating illnesses in a multistate outbreak of Salmonella Enteritidis infections linked to large brown cage free "sunshine/omega-3 golden” yolk eggs sourced from Country Eggs, LLC, of Lucerne Valley, CA.

Based on epidemiological information collected by CDC, a total of 95 people infected with the outbreak strain of Salmonella have been reported from 14 states. Illnesses started on dates ranging from January 7, 2025, to July 26, 2025. 33 of 36 ill persons with information available reported exposure to eggs or an egg-containing dish before becoming ill. There have been 18 hospitalizations, and no deaths have been reported.

As part of this investigation, FDA conducted traceback based on where ill people reported shopping or eating eggs/egg-containing dishes during the timeframe of interest, and Country Eggs, LLC, was identified as a common supplier.

Additionally, in response to this investigation, Country Eggs, LLC agreed to recall large brown cage free "sunshine/omega-3 golden” yolk eggs under the brand names Nagatoshi Produce, Misuho, Nijiya Markets, and Country Eggs, that could potentially be in peoples' homes. Consumers should check their refrigerators for the recalled eggs and refer to the Country Eggs, LLC, recall announcement for more information.

“UPDATE: Country Eggs, LLC. has updated produce code dates for Nagatoshi Produce, Misuho, Nijiya Markets, and bulk Country Eggs to sell by: 7/1/25 through 9/18/25”

Country Eggs, LLC of Lucerne Valley, CA is recalling our LARGE BROWN CAGE FREE SUNSHINE YOLKS because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. in rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections ( ie.. infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

The LARGE BROWN CAGE FREE SUNSHINE were distributed in California and Nevada. Product was delivered to grocery stores and food service distributors.

It has been reported that there have been 92 instances of illness and no reported deaths in connection with this problem.

The potential for contamination was noted after being brought to our attention by the FDA and other authorities that our product may contain the presence of Salmonella.

Production of the product has been suspended while FDA and the company continue their investigation as to the source of the problem.

This recall is being made with the knowledge of the US Food and Drug Administration.

Consumers who have purchased any of the affected retail brand cartons or in bulk from their foodservice distributors are urged to return them to the place you purchased them for a full refund or to safely dispose of them.
