Talk about a piggy bank.

A routine traffic stop in North Carolina turned up a whopping $3 million in cash that was hidden inside barrels of raw pork shoulders and was likely heading to Mexico, authorities announced Tuesday.

The money was found Saturday after deputies stopped a tractor trailer on Interstate 85 for failure to maintain its lane and impeding the flow of traffic, the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Deputies decided to search the vehicle with the help of a K9 and found more than 100 stacks of cash wrapped in plastic in the barrels, according to the release.

Authorities said they have reason to believe the money came from drug sales throughout the region and was being taken to the U.S.-Mexico border.

Sheriff Alan Norman told The Shelby Star this was “one of the largest U.S. currency seizures” in his county’s history.

It was not immediately clear if the driver knew he was transporting cash in addition to pork. The U.S. Department of Justice was called to assist in the investigation.
