Fish Cakes Have Undeclared Allergens - Wismettac Asian Foods, Inc., Santa Fe Springs, CA is issuing a voluntary recall for eight (8) types of Shirakiku brand imported fish cake products because of the possible contamination of some allergens (Milk, Egg and Crustacean shellfish). The recall was discovered through testing conducted by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency discovered the presence of the listed allergens that were not listed on the product label. The manufacturer in Kagoshima, Japan has been made aware of the issue and is conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the issue so corrections can be implemented.

WASHINGTON, July 18, 2019 – Koch Foods, a Fairfield, Ohio establishment, is recalling approximately 743 pounds of fully cooked boneless chicken bites due to misbranding and undeclared allergens, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today. The products contain soy, milk, and eggs, known allergens, which are not declared on the product label.
The frozen, fully cooked breaded boneless chicken bites were labeled as fully cooked chicken strips and were produced on May 31, 2019. The following products are subject to recall: [View labels (PDF only)]
•40-oz. plastic bags containing fully cooked breaded boneless chicken bites that were labeled “SCHWAN’S FULLY COOKED Crispy Chicken Breast Strips” with lot code YN91518412L1; these bags may be separate or in cardboard box cases labeled “BONELESS CHICKEN BITES” with a time stamp of 20:55 to 21:50.
The products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. P-20795” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to a distributor in Minnesota.
The problem was discovered when the firm received a customer complaint reporting that the product was incorrectly labeled.
There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.
FSIS is concerned that some product may be in consumers’ freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify that recalling firms are notifying their customers of the recall and that actions are being taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers. People who have a sensitivity to milk, egg or shellfish run the risk of serious or life threatening allergic reaction if they consume the product.
The product was distributed to retail stores in Alaska, Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Washington DC, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Jersey, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and Washington
To ensure consumer safety, all distribution of the affected products have ceased and retailers have been notified for the removal from shelves. No illnesses have been reported to date.

The products contain wheat, a known allergen, which is not declared on the product label.
The uncooked, marinated, diced beef and chicken cubes were produced from June 9 through July 10, 2019. The following products are subject to recall: [View labels (PDF only)]
•20-lb. boxes containing four unmarked 5 lb. plastic bags with “FIELDSOURCE Food Systems, Inc. NORTHGATE MARKET MARINATED BEEF CUBES” and lot codes 061019 through 071019 represented on the label.
•20-lb. boxes containing four unmarked 5 lb. plastic bags with “FIELDSOURCE Food Systems, Inc. NORTHGATE MARKET MARINATED CHICKEN CUBES” and lot codes 061019 through 071019 represented on the label.
The beef products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. 45141” and the chicken products bear establishment number “P-45141” inside the USDA marks of inspection. These items were shipped to grocery stores in California and used behind the deli counter. This product is not sold uncooked to consumers.
The problem was discovered during routine label verifications being performed by FSIS.
