This Week in Mislabeled Product for Week Ending May 25, 2019

There is egg in that salad - New Seasons Market is recalling approximately 60 pounds of Bacon Shallot Potato salad because it may contain undeclared eggs.  This recall was voluntarily initiated after it was discovered that product containing egg was sold in packaging that did not reveal the presence of egg.

Milk Missed on Salad Label - Wegmans Food Markets is recalling Wegmans Neptune Salad (UPC begins with 20108831), sold in random-weight packages, in the seafood department at six NY and NJ Wegmans stores on May 16 through May 21, 2019 because the product contains milk not declared on the label.  The recall was initiated after an employee discovered that some packages were labeled incorrectly at these stores.

Dried Apricots has Sulfites, But Not on Label - House of Spices (India) is recalling all lots of 7ounce (200g) packages of "LAXMI DRIED APRICOT" because they may contain undeclared sulfites. The recall was initiated after it was discovered by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Affairs that the sulfite-containing product was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of sulfites.

Forgot the Mayo (and that there are Eggs in the Mayo) - Hearthside Food Solutions of Woodridge, IL is voluntarily recalling 7-Eleven ‘The Italian Job’ sandwiches, which have an incorrect information panel label that does not declare eggs as an allergen.  In total, 1038 sandwiches were distributed to 362 7-Eleven stores in Indiana, Wisconsin, and Illinois.  The issue was discovered when a sandwich was not scannable at the store.  It was discovered that an obsolete ‘Italian Style Sub’ label was used, which did not declare “reduced fat mayonnaise,” an ingredient that contains eggs.

New Seasons Market is recalling approximately 60 pounds of Bacon Shallot Potato salad because it may contain undeclared eggs.  People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to eggs run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.

The mislabeled Bacon Shallot Potato salad was sold at three New Seasons Market locations in Portland, Ore. (Mountain Park, Hawthorne and University Park) from the deli case, per costumers’ order. The salad was packed into plastic deli containers, with a shelf life of five days from purchase. Product was sold with the Pack on Dates of May 16, 2019 to May 21, 2019, and all Sell By Dates up to and including May 26, 2019.

No illnesses have been reported to date.

This recall was voluntarily initiated after it was discovered that product containing egg was sold in packaging that did not reveal the presence of egg.

This recall is being made with the knowledge of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

New Seasons is urging customers with any egg concerns  or allergies to return or dispose of the recalled product for a full refund. Receipts are not required for the return. New Seasons is standing by to answer customer questions at its stores or via email: talktous@newseasonsmarket.com.

The recalled product was sold only at these six Wegmans locations (Neptune Salad sold at other Wegmans locations was not affected by the recall):

Bridgewater and Cherry Hill, New Jersey
 Lyell Avenue and Calkins Road in Rochester, NY
 John Glenn Blvd. in Syracuse, NY
 Military Rd. in Niagara Falls, NY

The recalled product was packaged in clear plastic containers with a label that states Wegmans Neptune Salad , and  Use or Freeze By dates of 5/16 through 5/24, imprinted on the upper left side of the label.

No illnesses have been reported to date.

Wegmans placed automated phone calls to customers who purchased the recalled product using their Shoppers Club card.

The recall was initiated after an employee discovered that some packages were labeled incorrectly at these stores.  People who have an allergy or sensitivity to milk should not consume the product and should return it to Wegmans for a full refund.

House of Spices (India) is recalling all lots of 7ounce (200g) packages of "LAXMI DRIED APRICOT", 7oz (200g) UPC code 2324617054, because they may contain undeclared sulfites. People who have allergies to sulfites run the risk of serious or life threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

The recalled LAXMI DRIED APRICOT was distributed nationwide in retail stores and through mail orders.

The product comes in a 7 oz (200g), clear plastic packages with yellow, green and red colors and Laxmi Logo. Below are pictures of the product.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

The recall was initiated after it was discovered by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Affairs that the sulfite-containing product was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of sulfites.

Production of the product has been suspended until FDA and the company are certain that the problem has been corrected.

Consumers who have purchased the LAXMI Dried Apricot 7 oz (200g) are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Hearthside Food Solutions of Woodridge, IL is voluntarily recalling 7-Eleven ‘The Italian Job’ sandwiches, which have an incorrect information panel label that does not declare eggs as an allergen.  Persons who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to eggs run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the recalled product.

The product has been removed from sale.  In total, 1038 sandwiches were distributed to 362 7-Eleven stores in Indiana, Wisconsin, and Illinois.

The product bears the sell-by date of “0523”. The sell-by date is located the top center part of the back label. The UPC for ‘The Italian Job’ Sandwich is 5254868635.  The recalled UPC code is 5254859970.  An example of the recalled label is included with this release.

No other sell-by dates or sandwiches are affected by this voluntary recall.

To date, there have not been any reports of illness associated with this product.

The issue was discovered when a sandwich was not scannable at the store.  It was discovered that an obsolete ‘Italian Style Sub’ label was used, which did not declare “reduced fat mayonnaise,” an ingredient that contains eggs.  An example of the recalled label is included with this release.
