Raisins With Sulfites Not on Label -  Deshi Distributors LLC. of Jamaica, NY, is recalling its 3.5 oz,  7 oz and 14 oz  packages of Deshi “Golden Raisins”  because they contained undeclared sulfites. The recall was initiated after routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspector and subsequent analysis by Food Laboratory personnel revealed the presence of sulfites in the 7 oz. packages of Deshi “Golden Raisin” which were not declared on the label.

Label Misses that Bread Crumb Ingredient has Soy - Santa Fe Importers, Inc., a Long Beach, Calif. establishment, is recalling approximately 1,589 pounds of ready-to-eat (RTE) chicken meatball products due to misbranding and an undeclared allergen, the products contain soy, a known allergen, which is not declared on the products label.  Santa Fe Importers, Inc. notified FSIS of the problem after the company learned that the bread crumbs used to make the meatballs contained soy lecithin.

This is the Bread Crumb with Soy - ICCO Cheese Company, Inc. (ICCO) of Orangeburg, New York, recalled Gia Russa Unseasoned Whole Grain Bread Crumbs and Gia Russa Italian Seasoned Whole Grain Bread Crumbs because they may contain undeclared walnuts and pecans.  This recall was triggered by a consumer complaint. ICCO informed the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and launched an internal investigation. The presence of walnuts and pecans was discovered in the product through third-party laboratory testing. The source of the tree nut allergen is believed to be the bread used by a supplier of the bread crumbs used by ICCO to repack the product.

Deshi Distributors LLC. of Jamaica, NY, is recalling its 3.5 oz,  7 oz and 14 oz  packages of Deshi “Golden Raisins”  because they contained undeclared sulfites. Consumers who have severe sensitivity to sulfites run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume this product.

The Golden Raisin with “undeclared sulphite” was distributed in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Michigan and through delivery to retail stores.

The product comes in a 3.5 oz, 7 oz. and 14 oz. clear plastic package. UPC codes of Deshi Golden Raisin products are as follows: 3.5 oz is 691035359586; 7 oz. is 691035360179; and 14 oz. is 691035360483.

No illness or allergic reactions involving this product have been reported to date.

The recall was initiated after routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspector and subsequent analysis by Food Laboratory personnel revealed the presence of sulfites in the 7 oz. packages of Deshi “Golden Raisin” which were not declared on the label. The same raisins were packaged in 3.5 oz and 14 oz packages and are included in this recall.

WASHINGTON, May 7, 2019 – Santa Fe Importers, Inc., a Long Beach, Calif. establishment, is recalling approximately 1,589 pounds of ready-to-eat (RTE) chicken meatball products due to misbranding and an undeclared allergen, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today. The products contain soy, a known allergen, which is not declared on the products label.

The frozen, RTE chicken Thai-style meatballs were produced and packaged on April 24, 2019. The following products are subject to recall:  [View Labels (PDF only)]

226 cases containing “lemonade CHICKEN THAI STYLE MEATBALL” with packaging date “04/24/2019” and case code “114-102130” on the labels.
The products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. P-4118” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to a distribution center in California and packed for Lemonade restaurants as indicated on the label.                                

Santa Fe Importers, Inc. notified FSIS of the problem after the company learned that the bread crumbs used to make the meatballs contained soy lecithin.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.

FSIS is concerned that some products may be in restaurant freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify that recalling firms are notifying their customers of the recall and that actions are being taken to make certain that the products are no longer available to consumers.

ICCO Cheese Company, Inc. (ICCO) of Orangeburg, New York, is recalling Gia Russa Unseasoned Whole Grain Bread Crumbs and Gia Russa Italian Seasoned Whole Grain Bread Crumbs with “best by” dates of 08/21/2019, 09/21/2019, 10/04/2019, 11/09/2019, 11/12/2019, 12/05/2019 because they may contain undeclared walnuts and pecans. People who have a tree nut allergy or severe sensitivity, do not consume the recalled product as it may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction.

Gia Russa Unseasoned Whole Grain Bread Crumbs UPC 0-26825-01853-2 and Gia Russa Italian Seasoned Whole Grain Bread Crumbs UPC 0-26825-01854-9 were distributed nationwide through retail stores.

Cans of the affected product are labeled with the product names “Gia Russa Whole Grain Bread Crumbs Unseasoned” or “Gia Russa Whole Grain Bread Crumbs Italian Seasoned” with a net weight of 10 oz. The affected products are labeled “Best by” 08/21/2019, 09/21/2019, 10/04/2019, 11/09/2019, 11/12/2019, 12/05/2019. The date code can be found on the bottom of the can.

This recall was triggered by a consumer complaint. ICCO informed the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and launched an internal investigation. The presence of walnuts and pecans was discovered in the product through third-party laboratory testing. The source of the tree nut allergen is believed to be the bread used by a supplier of the bread crumbs used by ICCO to repack the product. ICCO is fully cooperating with the FDA’s ongoing investigation. There has been one reported allergic reaction to date, associated with the consumption of the Whole Grain Bread Crumbs.
