This Week in Mislabeled Products for Week Ending January 26, 2019

Milk Missed on Label - Harvest Food Group, Inc., a Chicago, Ill. establishment, is recalling approximately 47,332 pounds of Not Ready-To-Eat (NRTE) chicken fried rice products due to misbranding and an undeclared allergen,  milk, which is not declared on the product label.  The problem was discovered by the firm during a label inventory check.

Milk Missed on the Label II - Perrigo Company, in coordination with The Kroger Company, is initiating a voluntary recall of one production lot of Simple Truth Organic Banana, Strawberry & Apple Fruit Puree with Nonfat Greek Yogurt (LOT L8159, best by 08/06/2019, produced in Spain) due to improper labeling that does not indicate the presence of milk, posing a potential risk to consumers with milk allergies.   An investigation determined that the Nutrition Facts Panel, Ingredient Declaration, and Allergen Statement on the back label of the package are incorrect on this lot due to a printing error.

Egg Missed on Label - Ottogi America, Inc. announced today it is recalling below 21 items due to a possibility of containing egg ingredient undeclared on the packages.  There was no information on how this was missed.

WASHINGTON, Jan. 25, 2019 – Harvest Food Group, Inc., a Chicago, Ill. establishment, is recalling approximately 47,332 pounds of Not Ready-To-Eat (NRTE) chicken fried rice products due to misbranding and an undeclared allergen, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today. The products contain milk, a known allergen, which is not declared on the product label.

The NRTE chicken fried rice items were produced on Nov. 12, 2018, Dec. 4, 2018 and Dec. 5, 2018. The following products are subject to recall: [View Label (PDF only)]

9-oz. cardboard packages of “yumnum global cuisine YAKITORI SEASONED CHICKEN FRIED RICE” bearing lot codes “C041A8K12 BEST BY 11/12/2019,” “C091A8L04 BEST BY 12/04/2019,” and “C091A8L05 BEST BY 12/05/2019.”
The products subject to recall bear establishment number “P-34457” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to retail locations in Illinois and Michigan.

The problem was discovered by the firm during a label inventory check.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.

FSIS is concerned that some product may be frozen and in consumers’ freezers and/or refrigerators. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify that recalling firms are notifying their customers of the recall and that actions are being taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers. Allegan, MI – Perrigo Company, in coordination with The Kroger Company, is initiating a voluntary recall of one production lot of Simple Truth Organic Banana, Strawberry & Apple Fruit Puree with Nonfat Greek Yogurt (LOT L8159, best by 08/06/2019, produced in Spain) due to improper labeling that does not indicate the presence of milk, posing a potential risk to consumers with milk allergies. Individuals who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk have an increased potential for a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

Perrigo is the distributor for this product, which is manufactured and packaged by Go Fruselva S.L. This product is sold exclusively by Kroger. The affected product was distributed to the Kroger Family of Stores located in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, Mississippi, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia.

An investigation determined that the Nutrition Facts Panel, Ingredient Declaration, and Allergen Statement on the back label of the package are incorrect on this lot due to a printing error.

No illnesses or allergic reactions involving this product have been reported to date.

This recall is being conducted with the knowledge of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Consumers who have purchased Simple Truth Organic Banana, Strawberry & Apple Fruit Puree with Nonfat Greek Yogurt (LOT L8159, best by 08/06/2019) may dispose of it or return it to any Kroger retail store for a full refund.

Ottogi America, Inc. announced today it is recalling below 21 items due to a possibility of containing egg ingredient undeclared on the packages. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to eggs run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction of they consume these products.
Some of these items possibly contain egg based on the test result conducted by CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency) and have been recalled in Canada. Thereafter, listed 21 items with the range of "BEST BEFORE" date on the above table have been recalled, which were delivered to nationwide in retail stores. No other products of any other size or similarity were affected.

Packaging material of "CUP" and "Bowl" items are paper and wrapped by plastic. All other items are in plastic bag. "BEST BEFORE DATE" can be found on the bottom of "CUP" and "BOWL" items. It can be also found on the front of package for all other items

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem. Distribution and selling these products have been suspended until FDA and the company are certain that the problem has been corrected.
