Milk Missing on Beef Jerky Label - A Mass. establishment, is recalling approximately 1,391 pounds of beef jerky products due to misbranding and an undeclared allergen  - the products contain milk which is not declared on the product label. The problem was discovered by FSIS personnel during routine verification activities.  Likely issue - Inadequate label approval process

Kimchi Product Recalled After Allergenic Reaction to Shellfish - JFC International Inc. of Los Angeles, CA is voluntarily recalling a Kimchi Hot Pot Soup Base because it was found to contain undeclared Crustacean Shellfish (Shrimp, Crab).  The recall was initiated after JFC was notified of an allergic reaction by a consumer who consumed this product. Likely issue - cross contamination due to poor sanitation, or an ingredient issue

WASHINGTON, Feb. 1, 2018 – Whip City Jerky, LLC, a Westfield, Mass. establishment, is recalling approximately 1,391 pounds of beef jerky products due to misbranding and an undeclared allergen, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today. The products contain milk, a known allergen, which is not declared on the product label.

The beef jerky items were produced on various dates between Dec. 18, 2017 and Jan. 31, 2018. The following products are subject to recall: [View Labels (PDF only)]

•2.8-oz. packages containing “WHIPCITY JERKY BBQ BEEF JERKY,” with BEST WHEN USED BY dates of 020918, 022318, 030218, 030918, 031618 and 032318.

•2.8-oz. packages containing “WHIPCITY JERKY BLACK PEPPERED CURRY BEEF JERKY,” with BEST WHEN USED BY dates of 021218, 021918, 022618, 030518, 031218 and 031918.

•2.8-oz. packages containing “WHIPCITY JERKY CAJUN BEEF JERKY,” with BEST WHEN USED BY dates of 021118, 021818, 022518, 030418, 031118 and 031818.

•2.8-oz. packages containing “WHIPCITY JERKY HAWAIIAN BEEF JERKY,” with BEST WHEN USED BY dates of 021118, 021818, 022518, 030418, 031118 and 031818.

•2.8-oz. packages containing “WHIPCITY JERKY HOT ORIGINAL BEEF JERKY,” with BEST WHEN USED BY dates of 020918, 022318, 030218, 030918, 031618 and 032318.

•2.8-oz. packages containing “WHIPCITY JERKY JALEPENO BEEF JERKY,” with BEST WHEN USED BY dates of 021118, 021818, 022518, 030418, 031118 and 031818.

•2.8-oz. packages containing “WHIPCITY JERKY LEMON PEPPER BEEF JERKY,” with BEST WHEN USED BY dates of 021018, 022418, 030318, 031018 and 031718.

•2.8-oz. packages containing “WHIPCITY JERKY MAPLE BEEF JERKY,” with BEST WHEN USED BY dates of 020818, 021518, 022218, 030118, 030818, 031518 and 032218.

•2.8-oz. packages containing “WHIPCITY JERKY MESQUITE BEEF JERKY,” with BEST WHEN USED BY dates of 021018, 022418, 030318, 031018, 031718 and 032418.

•2.8-oz. packages containing “WHIPCITY JERKY ORIGINAL BEEF JERKY,” with BEST WHEN USED BY dates of 020818 through 032418.

•2.8-oz. packages containing “WHIPCITY JERKY PLAIN BEEF JERKY,” with BEST WHEN USED BY dates of 020818, 030118, 030818, 031518 and 032218.

•2.8-oz. packages containing “WHIPCITY JERKY RAGIN BUFFALO BEEF JERKY,” with BEST WHEN USED BY dates of 020918, 022318, 030218, 030918, 031618 and 032318.

•2.8-oz. packages containing “WHIPCITY JERKY REDHOT RUDOLPH BEEF JERKY,” with BEST WHEN USED BY dates of 021018, 022418, 030318, 031018 and 031718.

The products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. 00948M” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to retail stores in Massachusetts and Connecticut and sold via internet/catalog sales.

The problem was discovered by FSIS personnel during routine verification activities.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.

Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notify their customers of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers. When available, the retail distribution lists will be posted on the FSIS website at www.fsis.usda.gov/recalls.

JFC International Inc. of Los Angeles, CA is voluntarily recalling a Kimchi Hot Pot Soup Base because it was found to contain undeclared Crustacean Shellfish (Shrimp, Crab).   Individuals who have allergies to crustacean shellfish (shrimp, crab) runs the risk of a serious life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the product.  One incident has been reported to date in connection with this issue.

The products were distributed between 10/01/16 and 01/31/18 to retail stores and other foodservice operators in the states of AK, AZ, CA, CT, DC, DE, HI, IL, IN, KS, KY, MA, MD, MI, MO, NE, NH, NJ, NV, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, TX, UT, VA, WA, WI.

JFC International Inc. is recalling the following product:

The Daisho Kimchi Hot Pot Soup Base comes in a Red Aluminum Pouch, and the Lot Code is found to the left of the barcode.

The recall was initiated after JFC was notified of an allergic reaction by a consumer who consumed this product.

JFC immediately responded to this issue and has already taken action to stop sales and distribution of the affected product. 

Consumers who have purchased these products are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.  Consumers with questions may contact the company at 1-800-633-1004, Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM PST or via e-mail at consserv@jfc.com.
