A number of recalls have been issued that are related to the recall of packaged vegetables by Mann Packing which originated when the CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection agency) tested and found Listeria in retail packages of Mann Packing product. These recalls are by retailers who purchased the prepared (washed, chopped) salad items to use in meals and kits and on salad bars.
A PA establishment is recalling to-be-cooked chicken meals after the company was notified by the supplier of the broccoli, Mann Packing, used in the dishes may contain Listeria. While this was a not-ready-to-eat product, and it had validated cooking instructions, and the product was at end of shelf-life, the firm decided to recall out of extreme caution.

- A Portland, Ore. establishment, is issuing a public health alert for ready-to-eat (RTE) kale and broccoli slaw salad with chicken items, produced from Oct. 6, 2017 through Oct. 10, 2017. A recall was not requested because it is believed that all products are no longer in commerce and are past their “Best by” dates.
- King Soopers said today it has recalled deli broccoli salads and coleslaw that are sold in King Soopers and City Market stores, located in Colorado, Utah, New Mexico and Wyoming. The product may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The deli broccoli salads and coleslaw are sold from the service case in the deli department at King Soopers and City Market. King Soopers and City Market have removed these items from store shelves and initiated their customer recall notification system that alerts customers who may have purchased recalled products through register receipt tape messages and phone calls.
- Pacific Coast Fruit Company in Portland, Oregon is voluntarily recalling multiple types of bagged processed salads
- Paragon Wholesale Foods Corp., of Warrendale, PA, is recalling several lots of 1.7 ounce Broccoli Florets. The recalled broccoli florets were distributed to multiple schools in the Greater Pittsburgh and Butler, PA areas between 10/9/2017 and 10/16/2017.

WASHINGTON, Oct. 20, 2017 – Fresh Foods Manufacturing Co., a Freedom, Pa. establishment, is recalling approximately 701 pounds of heat-treated, not fully cooked, not shelf stable chicken products that may be adulterated with Listeria monocytogenes, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.
The heat-treated, not fully cooked, not shelf stable chicken products were packaged from Oct. 10-16, 2017. The following products are subject to recall: [View Label (PDF Only)]
•7-oz. plastic bowl containing “great to Go BY MARKET DISTRICT CHICKEN & VEGETABLE POTSTICKERS,” with a best-by date 10/17/2017 through 10/23/2017, and case code UPC 815712014975.
•12-oz. plastic bowl containing “great to Go BY MARKET DISTRICT SESAME CHICKEN RAMEN NOODLES,” with a best-by date 10/17/2017 through 10/23/2017, and case code UPC 815712014937.
•12-oz. plastic bowl containing “great to Go BY MARKET DISTRICT CHICKEN & VEGETABLE FRIED RICE,” with a best-by date 10/17/2017 through 10/23/2017, and case code UPC 81571201494.
•12-oz. plastic bowl containing “great to Go BY MARKET DISTRICT SPICY THAI-STYLE CHICKEN WITH UDON NOODLES,” with a best-by date 10/17/2017 through 10/23/2017, and case code UPC 815712014951.
The products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. P-40211.” These items were shipped to retail locations in Indiana, Ohio and Pennsylvania.
The problem was discovered on Oct. 19, 2017 when Fresh Foods Manufacturing Co. received notification from a supplier that the broccoli used by the company was recalled due to Listeria concerns.
There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products.
Consumption of food contaminated with L. monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, a serious infection that primarily affects older adults, persons with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women and their newborns. Less commonly, persons outside these risk groups are affected.
Listeriosis can cause fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions sometimes preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms. An invasive infection spreads beyond the gastrointestinal tract. In pregnant women, the infection can cause miscarriages, stillbirths, premature delivery or life-threatening infection of the newborn. In addition, serious and sometimes fatal infections in older adults and persons with weakened immune systems. Listeriosis is treated with antibiotics. Persons in the higher-risk categories who experience flu-like symptoms within two months after eating contaminated food should seek medical care and tell the health care provider about eating the contaminated food.
Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notify their customers of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers. GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Meijer is announcing a recall of various packaged Meijer brand produce items due to a potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms like high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, a Listeria monocytogenes infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
The recall affects the following products sold in Meijer stores in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky and Wisconsin purchased September 27, 2017 through October 20, 2017. The items will be in plastic containers or foam trays with printed labels with various sizes and weights.
Meijer received notice of a possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination from Mann Packing, a Meijer supplier based in Salinas, Calif. that sources the Meijer branded produce items. Mann Packing informed Meijer that evidence of potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination had been identified by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. No illnesses have been reported to date.

•8.75-oz. containers with “Kale & Broccoli Slaw Salad with Grilled Chicken Breast (Rib Meat)” with item #20346 and a “Use By” dates of: 10/12/17 through 10/16/17.
The products bear establishment number “P-39928” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to retail locations in Oregon and Washington.
The problem was discovered on Oct. 19, 2017 when the firm received notification from their broccoli supplier that the broccoli products used in the kale broccoli slaw with chicken salads were included in a U.S. Food & Drug Administration recall due to potential contamination with L. monocytogenes. The firm notified FSIS on Oct. 20, 2017. There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. In addition, serious and sometimes fatal infections can occur in older adults and persons with weakened immune systems. Listeriosis is treated with antibiotics. Persons in the higher-risk categories who experience flu-like symptoms within two months after eating contaminated food should seek medical care and tell the health care provider about eating the contaminated food.

King Soopers said today it has recalled deli broccoli salads and coleslaw that are sold in King Soopers and City Market stores, located in Colorado, Utah, New Mexico and Wyoming. The product may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
No reports of illness or injury have been reported to date. Anyone concerned about an illness should contact a healthcare provider.
The deli broccoli salads and coleslaw are sold from the service case in the deli department at King Soopers and City Market. King Soopers and City Market have removed these items from store shelves and initiated their customer recall notification system that alerts customers who may have purchased recalled products through register receipt tape messages and phone calls.
King Soopers and City Market were notified on October 20 by the manufacturer, Journey Cuisine, that the recalled product contains an ingredient from Mann Packing that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The company has ceased production and distribution of the product pending an investigation.
Customers who have purchased the product described above should not consume it and should return it to a store for a full refund or replacement.

Pacific Coast Fruit Company in Portland, Oregon is voluntarily recalling multiple types of bagged processed salads based on the potential contamination of Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Pacific Coast Fruit utilized a portion of the Mann Packing's affected products in our retail and food service processed bagged salads. Please see attached list below for specific products entered into commerce, including UPC codes, Pacific Coast Fruit Item Numbers, and Best if Use By Dates or Production Dates.
Pacific Coast recalled products were distributed to selected grocery, restaurant and deli chains in Oregon and Washington.
The recalled retail salads are packed in a 10 oz, 16 oz, 20 oz, 25 oz plastic clamshell style and value-added food service items are packed in 5 lbs – 20 lbs food service salad bags.
There have been NO reported illnesses associated with this recall to date. This voluntary recall is being conducted with the knowledge of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

•8.75-oz. containers with “Kale & Broccoli Slaw Salad with Grilled Chicken Breast (Rib Meat)” with item #20346 and a “Use By” dates of: 10/12/17 through 10/16/17.
The products bear establishment number “P-39928” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to retail locations in Oregon and Washington.
The problem was discovered on Oct. 19, 2017 when the firm received notification from their broccoli supplier that the broccoli products used in the kale broccoli slaw with chicken salads were included in a U.S. Food & Drug Administration recall due to potential contamination with L. monocytogenes. The firm notified FSIS on Oct. 20, 2017. There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an illness should contact a health care provider.

Paragon Wholesale Foods Corp., of Warrendale, PA, is recalling several lots of 1.7 ounce Broccoli Florets in response to a nationwide recall by one of its suppliers, Mann Packing (Salinas, CA) because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
The recalled broccoli florets were distributed to multiple schools in the Greater Pittsburgh and Butler, PA areas between 10/9/2017 and 10/16/2017. These customers have all been contacted directly and the affected products were removed on Thursday, October 19, 2017 when the firm was first notified of the recall by their supplier.
The product comes in a 1/2 cup (1.7 oz), clear plastic bag marked with the "Just Cut" logo on the front with a Best by date of 10/16/17 or 10/23/2017 stamped on the rear. This product was distributed in food service packages only and was not distributed to any retail locations.
Mann Packing, the original supplier of the broccoli florets, conducted a nationwide recall of various cut vegetables due to a report that the Canadian Food Inspection Agency's random sampling found a single positive result for Listeria monocytogenes on a Mann Packing Power Blend bagged salad product.
No other products from Paragon Foods are involved at this time, and to date, no illnesses have been reported in connection with this problem.
