Hershey, Pa. — The Hershey Company (NYSE:HSY) has issued a voluntary recall of three products sold under the SoFit brand after a supplier who provides sunflower seeds for the products expanded its recall on June 1.
The supplier SunOpta issued a recall after discovering that it produced sunflower seeds that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
Although there have been no reports of illness, Hershey is issuing the recall out of an abundance of caution.
The recalled SoFit products include a sunflower seed item as well as an almond and a pumpkin seed item produced on the same manufacturing equipment.
The recalled SoFit products are:
SoFit Protein Plus Sunflower Seeds Sea Salt with the following date codes: 72H, 72J, 79P, 82F, 82G, 82K, 82L
SoFit Protein Plus Pumpkin Seeds Sesame Garlic with the following date codes: 73B, 73C, 81P, 81R
SoFit Protein Plus Almonds Jalapeno Garlic with the following date codes: 72R, 73A, 79R, 82C, 82D
No other Hershey products or products sold under the Sofit brand are affected.

Rucker’s Wholesale and Service Co of Bridgeport, IL is voluntarily recalling Sunflower Kernels, Sweet & Salty Mix, and Cajun Hot Mix because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headaches, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
Sunflower Kernels, Sweet & Salty Mix and Cajun Hot Mix were distributed nationwide into retail farm stores, and outdoor sporting good stores.

Taylors Candy, Inc. of Alsip, IL under advice from its supplier is recalling Stuckey’s bags of Sunflower Kernels because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
The recalled "Stuckey’s Sunflower Kernels" were distributed to retail stores located in the states of : AL, AR, FL, GA, IL, IN, KY, LA, MO, MS, NC, SC, TN, TX, and VA.
The product comes in a 5.5 ounce, peg bag package marked with a code date of 1 1036 stamped on the front of the bag. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.
This is part of an expanded recall for Sunflower Kernels processed by SunOpta Corp. where potential for contamination was noted after routine testing revealed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in the facility that processes the bulk kernels.

COLUMBUS – Giant Eagle supplier SunOpta has notified the retailer of a second expansion of the previously reported product recall on its sunflower seeds sold in the bulk section of three central Ohio Market District stores due to possible Listeria monocytogenes (Listeria) contamination.
The affected product was sold in the bulk foods sections of the Kingdale, Dublin and Grandview Yard Market District locations with a PLU of 65167. The additional recalled product was available for purchase at these locations both loose within the bulk bin through June 1, 2016, and in pre-packaged containers with sell by dates through December 1, 2016. There are no confirmed illnesses to date associated with this recall.
Customers who have purchased the affected product should dispose of it or return it to their local Market District. Customers may also bring in the qualifying receipt to receive a refund on their purchase of the affected product. Customers with questions may call Giant Eagle Customer Care at 1-800-553-2324 Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. ET.
In addition to this public communication regarding this recall, Giant Eagle initiated its consumer recall telephone notification process. Lake Success, NY: MaraNatha®, under advice from its co-manufacturer of sunflower seed butter, is voluntarily recalling a limited number of retail lots of MaraNatha® All Natural Sunflower Seed Butter because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
The potential for contamination was noted after notification was received from SunOpta, the sunflower seed supplier, pertaining to positive Listeria monocytogenes results. No reports of illness from Listeria have been reported to the company.

Consumption of food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, an uncommon, but potentially fatal disease. Healthy people rarely contract listeriosis.
